Rugby league’s grassroots development has received a massive injection in the arm thanks to one of the Pacific’s leading shipping companies.
In a ceremony held at the Molida Shipping Agency office at Matautu-Tai, Matson presented a cheque of $20,000 to support Rugby League Samoa’s grassroots and rural development programmes.
Matson’s Senior Vice President, Vic Angoco and Matson’s Manager of Bulk Fuels La’auli Michael Jones presented the cheque to Rugby League Samoa’s President, Tagaloa Fa’afouina Su’a.
The sponsorship is made possible through the Matson Foundation which contributes funds, material goods and services to assist in the development and operation of not-for-profit charitable and community organisations in the geographic locations in which Matson has business operations.
In his remarks Mr. Angoco mentioned that Matson is not only about supporting the economies of the Pacific through shipping services but the company is also focused on giving back to the communities through charitable and non profit organisations.
Matson is very pleased to be partnering with Rugby League Samoa to develop the youth of Samoa through sport and is excited to also support the Toa Samoa Residence team that will be playing Tonga in August this year at the Aloha Stadium in Hawaii.
Also present at the ceremony were representatives of Toa Gas Samoa. Toa Gas is a supplier of high quality and affordable LPG cooking gas for the Upolu, Savaii, American Samoa and Cook Island markets. This high quality LPG Gas is sourced from Matson Bulk
Fuels in New Zealand. Toa Gas are also sponsors of the Samoa Rugby League grass roots and rural development programs and our TOA Samoa.
In receiving the donation, Tagaloa Fa’afouina Sua thanked Mr Angoco and the Matson team for their confidence in and support of Rugby League Samoa. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a TOA Samoa playing jersey and shorts to Mr Angoco as a token of thanks and appreciation from Rugby League Samoa.
