Energised after the massage.

Energised after the massage.

In the cool heights of Vailima is Maliu Mai Spa. I felt a great sense of peace and tranquillity when I arrived.  Even the family pet or was it a guard dog, was at peace and did not feel the urge to bark or jump on me. I marvelled at the vibrant garden and my mood immediately went up several knotches of happiness.

I was immediately greeted on arrival and settled in for a warm foot bath with “tipolo” and gardenia infusion before heading into the cooled massage room scented with fresh blooms of “tiare” and lightly illuminated with tea candles.

The relaxing hour massage went by too quickly and ended with the hot towel wipe-down which I like very much. As an avid user of the massage services both for relaxation and working out those knots, I have noted the changes in some of the services offered locally that end with an oily body and “slipping out of shoes” sessions as you negotiate your way out.

Maliu Mai Spa has three full time staff and one part timer and is one of the businesses belonging to a couple of young Samoan entrepreneurs.

Last Saturday, I had the distinct pleasure to catch up again with the beautiful, spiritual and soft spoken entrepreneur, Mrs Natalya Ah Him at her peaceful and serene Maliu Mai Spa at Vailima.

Relaxed and feeling exhilarated after the “fofo”.

Natalya, daughter of Gaono Randy and Tiumalu Carol Ah Chong has been in the spa business for several years now. “I was blessed to have started my business at our Ah Him family business, Hotel Millenia. I am very grateful to my in-laws, Maualaivao Pat and Nia Ah Him for their love, encouragement and support at the time when I started the spa until we relocated to our new location last year”, says Natalya.

There are usually some very special people that inspire us and in return we idolise them.  Natalya’s  voice softens further as she smiles and shares  the inspiration behind Maliu Mai Spa. “My nana, Su’a Frieda Paul is my idol. She has been an inspiration and a role model for me and I’ve been so blessed to have had her as a part of my life and my number one supporter. My mum, who continues to give so much of herself to help other people and loving them unconditionally, is with nana in supporting my husband Francis and I in the creation of a safe and relaxing place that is warm, welcoming and peaceful, filled with God’s presence. Mapu Mai Spa is a haven that we wish to share with anyone needing our support.”

Natalya and Francis have also built a “Peace Garden” on their property and welcomes anyone in need of some peace of mind. “We just recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary” says Natalya.

She encourages couples to spend time together in the search for peace and tranquillity and on-going strengthening of their relationships. For this purpose, the massage rooms are outfitted for two persons, so couples can have massages together in peaceful zen.

Besides the spa and accompanying beauty services, the Natalya & Francis also host a Wednesday evening BBQ dinner  with dining under the stars, weather permitting of course. Bookings are essential on 7704721.

The artistic and creative Natalya also designs and prints table cloths, bed spreads, clothes & sarongs to name just a few under her Pele Creation label  The creations are a follow on from nana Su’a Frieda’s original Carl & Marks boutique, the first of its kind in Samoa many decades ago.

“I would like to say thank you to my husband Francis and my children, my grandmother Ah Chong and Ah Him parents, my aunty Luna Paul, my families, clients and staff for the never ending love, support and prayers that I am where I am because of all of you. I will be forever grateful” gushes the beautiful Natalya Ah Him

Be kind to your body and soul, and find time for both. Check out Maliu Mai Spa for some zen, blissful “ME” time.
