A TV-thon organized by the Avele College Old Pupils Association (A.C.O.P.A) to buy a new school bus has been hailed a success.

Principal of Avele College, Matafeo Lesaisaea Reupena, confirmed that they collected $106,000 from the fundraiser.

With that amount, they are short of $17,000 to purchase a $123,000 bus ordered through ASCO Motors.

“With the money we collected we can buy a second hand bus,” he said.“But we value the support of the public during the radio thon and we do not want to waste their efforts on a second hand bus.

Matafeo added that the bus is scheduled to arrive next month.

“We already deposited the $100,000 with ASCO for the bus and hopefully by the time it gets here we will be able to pay the remaining balance.”

The school’s new mode of transport will be a 2016 30-seater bus.

The initiative came about after the recent school violence involving some of the Avele students and it is something that they do not want to happen again.

Matafeo thanked the support of members of the public, the church leaders, government leaders as well as each and everyone who have showed their generosity in supporting the school’s activities.

He also thanked the president of the Old pupils association for their support and making this event a huge success.
