Tommy Robertson, aged 62, is originally from Scotland, and now lives in New Zealand. 

He is escaping the cold winters of his new home in sunny Samoa. 

Thirteen days into his trip, he has seen much of the island. 

To Sua Trench continues to stun travellers, with its incredible views and adventurous ladder climb. Tommy has seen many of the natural Samoan wonders and found them to his liking. 

The Blow holes in particular have been a highlight, but at the end of an adventurous day, Tommy and his wife love to come back and relax at the 4.5 star rated, Tanoa Tusitala Hotel in Apia. 

Boasting traditional handtied fales, the Tanoa is the perfect place to escape into traditional Samoan culture. 

Centrally located, it provides easy access into Apia itself, where the Samoa Observer found Tommy in the market.

 Surrounded by hand made, local produce, he was happy to tell us about his experience of the island. 

His favourite thing to do is walk through the more remote villages and appreciate the difference in culture and their relaxed way of life. These walks have taken him all around the island, and to indulging in the local fresh fish. 

“The oka was nice,” Tommy said. 

Straight from the sea, Samoa’s fresh produce is often a hit with tourists and islanders alike. 

Paddles restaurant also received a glowing recommendation from Tommy. 

Paddles is a popular restaurant, having been awarded Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence for both 2012 and 2013. Restaurant co-owner, Giovanni Rossi accepted these awards stating “we strive to offer our customers a memorable experience, and this accolade is evidence that our hard work is translating into positive reviews.”

With a glowing tan, Tommy said he would definitely recommend Samoa to his friends and family because it is an “unspoilt” nation. 

Getting stuck into the Samoan spirit, he added “I hope Samoa thrashes Wales in the rugby!”
