You cannot convert customary land to freehold land. It is forbidden under the Constitution.

Therefore 80% of Samoa’s land cannot attract credit.

There are tentative steps to try and obtain credit from leases but the banks remain largely unconvinced at this stage. In short, you know nothing as usual.

Taro and coconut exports have improved in the past year. For exports to truly go throw the roof you need massive amounts (billions) of foreign or domestic investment.

There is no way the current low levels of liquidity in Samoa’s small financial sector can provide that investment, so it will have to come from foreign investment.
