A middle-aged man is counting his lucky stars today after surviving a horrific crash at the Faleata Sports Complex yesterday.

Keneti Kosi was pulled from the ruins of a truck he drove after it overturned and smashed into a ditch at Tuanaimato at around 1pm.

The truck was transporting sand when it crashed.

“The truck driver lost control because it was traveling fast and it was carrying a heavy cargo,” said one bystander.

The Fire Department, Police along with an ambulance arrived quickly. They pulled Mr. Kosi from the crash site and took him to the hospital.

Mr. Kosi, 36, of Lepea, is married with children. He suffered from head and leg injuries and spent the night in hospital.

Later, a rescue official told the Samoa Observer the truck had no breaks.

The driver’s side was completely crushed.  It was a miracle that the driver survived, another rescue worker said.

A crane was used to hoist the truck up as a team of Police and fire rescue men cut through the steel frame to pull out the driver.
