The Samoa Victim Support Group Juniors recently launched a book drive in a bid to build a library at Foailuga.

Communication officer for Group, Marieta Ilalio, said the book drive is an opportunity for members of the public donating books to help create a library in Foailuga, Savai’i.

“We have urged members of the public to donate any books to assist us in constructing a library at Foailuga at the Assembly of God church in Savaii.

“The residence of the pastor for A.O.G. will have an allocated space to be used as the location for the small library. All the books will be provided, not only locally but also abroad from members of the public,” she said.

Marieta said their determination to create equal opportunities for children in town and rural areas, gave rise to the decision to kick start the book drive.

“Our main focus right now is Savai’i and with this new library, books will be free of access for kids from all surrounding villages.

“It is an ongoing project that we plan to work on in boosting the literacy rate amongst the young children at rural areas which is the areas we are mainly focusing on.

“The library will be set-up after the deadline which is 30th November. And also we are planning to converse with the people of Foailuga in collecting data based on whether children are interested in the project or not for further improvements,” she said.

She added that a challenge they face is financial backing, due to their organisation being a non-governmental.

“We are thankful that the public are keen to support and some have already started donating books.

“I love to help others by making a difference that is what I believe and also the motto of SVSG Juniors,” she added.

SVSG Juniors was established under the umbrella of SVSG main in 2013 but revived last year. The members are compiled of registered various church youths, village youths and also members from abroad as far as America, Australia, and New Zealand.
