A new year brings not only happiness; it gives us the opportunity to have a fresh start and a hope to fulfill our dreams.
So believes 46-year-old mother from the village of Salani Falealili, Fofoa Lolo.
As we kick off start with this year, Fofoa said it is always important to reflect on all the work of the previous year, and see where we can improve on for this year.
“2016 is in the past,” she told the Village Voice.
“And I think we should learn from the mistakes we made in 2016. As we move forward, it is always important to stop and see where we can work on to improve our lives.
“And we should let go of whatever happened in the past. This New Year is an opportunity for us to start a new chapter and a new beginning.”
She went on to say that everything should start from the families.
“This is where everything begins,” she said.
“For my family, the main for me is to keep pushing my children to do the right thing.
“Our duty as parents is to keep advising them about the right way to live their lives. Things are difficult these days, and if we don’t do our duties then there will be a big problem with our children.
“I know sometimes I don’t do my duty as a parent to my children, but this year, my ultimate goal is to push my children to do their best, not only in school but in all they do as well.
“Because nowadays, our children put on a different behaviour when they are at home and a different attitude when they go out of the house.
“But the bible says that if we start teaching them the right way when they are young, they will never depart from it.”
Moreover, with all the troubles caused by the children and youths in public places lately, Fofoa believes that parents should look at this carefully.
“Not all children are behaving in such way. But to me, we should use this as a wakeup call and a warning for us.
“If we do our duty, the problem will be avoided.
“This is a new year; we should all have fresh minds and ideas on how to improve our lives. We should stop living with regrets and mistakes from the previous years. We should all move forward and make a brand new start.”
