FAMILIAR SIGHT: Flooding at Taufusi.

The Ministry of Police has warned the public to be careful during this time of heavy rain and flooding.

During a weekly media conference with the Police Spokesperson, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu he asked that the public exercise caution.

“We haven’t had any calls for help from members of the public this week but we ask everyone to be careful,” said Su’a.

“I know we are in the wet season and most likely there will be flooding as well as heavy rains which cause slippages.

“So we just want to let the public know and especially look out for the children.

“I know kids love the rain but we parents need to be careful and keep an eye on them.”

He also warned families who stay near the rivers to make sure they move inland in case of floods.

“This time of the year safety comes first for those of you who are residing close to rivers,” he said.

“Make sure when you see that the river is rising that  you move up to somewhere safe so that no problems will occur.

“And if worse comes to worst and you need help from the police or the fire services, do not hesitate to contact us and we will come.

“Please stay safe and look after the children.

“Better safe than sorry.”
