A refresher training leading to certification of senior Yazaki EDS staff on career counselling was completed on Monday.
Fourteen staff members were recognised for their skills and knowledge on planning and delivering career counselling services.
The training was a follow up to the two-day training organised in May by the International Labour Organisation (I.L.O) and the Samoa National Youth Council (S.N.Y.C).
The General Manager of Yazaki EDS Samoa Ltd, Funefeai Oliva Vaai, acknowledged the great support of I.L.O on the capacity building and skills strengthening of Yazaki management staff.
Also on the future programmes already on plan for more programmes for Yazaki staff on the transitional period to assist with securing jobs and also access to other services that are provide by ILO partners.
“While the first training covered all aspects of career counselling, the refresher trained focused on interview skills, an area identified by Yazaki as the most critical,” said Tomasi Peni, the I.L.O National Coordinator in Samoa.
He added that that the I.L.O in collaboration with Yazaki EDS Samoa has planned a series of programmes to support the transition of redundant workers to other jobs.
National partners such as the Samoa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (S.C.C.I), Samoa First Union, Small Business Enterprise Center (S.B.E.C) and the Samoa National Youth Council (S.N.Y.C) are will deliver various programmes.

Uelese Tupuola, the President of the Yazaki Staff Association, who also received his certification said that the trainers has already reached out to about 130 workers since May and they will plan to extend this knowledge to more before the closure.
Yazaki EDS is a member of the Samoa Manufactures & Exporters (S.A.M.E) Association and member of the Samoa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (S.C.C.I). The Yazaki Staff Association is a member of the Samoa National Tripartite Forum (S.N.T.F).
