The willingness to help your family is one thing but securing a job to do that is another matter.
This is the dilemma that Vaifale Tufuga faces every day.
The 32-year-old moved from Salelologa, Savai’i to Upolu for better opportunities for him and his family.
Mr. Tufuga now lives in Faleula.
He said since his father passed away, he was tasked with helping his mother with their daily survival.
“Nothing in life ever comes easy and we need to work in order to reach our goals,” he said.
“I just want to work, so whatever job is offered to me, I will gladly accept it, as long as I can help my mum when she needs it.
“Family is everything and now that my father is gone, I need to step up and be strong for my mother, I know I will never be half the man my father was, but at least I can do something productive.”
Mr. Tufuga said most of the jobs that were offered nowadays were either too hard or the pay was not enough.
But he said he would take this as a challenge because behind every successful story there is a humble beginning.
He said growing up, he witnessed his two siblings sell in a stall they had in Savai’i, but he decided to move to Upolu.
Mr. Tufuga does not have a family of his own, but with the sacrifices he has made for his family, he understands the weight of having a family.
He wishes for nothing more this year than to have a steady job.
“I want to start this year fresh and I want to make it right by helping myself and my family too.”
