PART IV on pages 28 and 29th in last week’s edition we provided a clear explanation as to ‘’Why the Rosary’’ and why our Lady in all her sixth appearances insisted on praying the Rosary and a devotion and consecration to her Immaculate Heart. Part V below; we provide you with an account on Power of Prayers and Rosary devotion and what it means by; Consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Power of Prayers and the Rosary Devotion
The fall of Communism in Russia has been interpreted a fulfillment of one of the secrets of our Lady’s request ‘’ to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart’ Our Lady told the children that GOD had chosen to use Russia as the instrument of chastisement to punish the whole world if we did not, by our obedience, prayers, and sacrifices, obtain conversion of Russia to the Christian faith. She told us that the whole world [the part surviving] will be enslaved by the atheistic tyrants of Russia and its errors will spread across the globe.
When our Lady knew that Vladimir Lenin and other revolutionaries return from exile in April 1917 she immediately warned the three seers on May 13TH 1917 with a dreadful warning to the world to stop sinning.
The enormity of mankind’s rebellion against God, and God’s infinite aversion to sin, form the foundation of the Fatima message.
It is a warning that the time of God’s justice will come to pass, if men do not take advantage of this time of His mercy, this special opportunity of making reparation through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
While many decades have passed since Our Lady gave to the world her message at Fatima in 1917, there are comparatively few who have taken that message seriously, and of those who have, some have interpreted it erroneously within the Church.
But it is true that the fulfillment or non-fulfillment of her requests would have great consequences for the world situation, for world peace, for the very survival of nations. Nevertheless, her message is essentially a spiritual one, a call for prayer and penance - a conversion of life, and a dire warning of what would happen if her requests were not fulfilled. Her words were truly prophetic, for much of what she predicted has come to pass. Then Pope Pius XII consecrated Russia in 1952. St Pope John Paul II consecrated the Soviet Union on March 25 1982. He consecrated the whole world on May 13, 1982 being the 65th Anniversary of the Apparition and he visited Fatima and thanked God and the Blessed Mother for having spared his life. He remarked, “In the designs of providence, there are no mere coincidences.” Once he recovered, the Holy Father continued his courageous preaching throughout the world. Again at the Vatican on March 25, 1984 St Pope John Paul II renewed the consecration of the world.
Consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary- What it means?
There are many devotions in the Holy Catholic Church, all of which lead us to Christ. None of them exist for any purpose other than to help us to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to serve Jesus in this world, so that we get to spend a harmonious eternity with Him in Heaven, forever.
To consecrate somebody to the Immaculate Heart of Mary or the Sacred Heart of Jesus is nothing less than making a solemn spiritual surrender to Mary or Jesus to take care of that person’s daily undertakings both spiritually and physically.
In January 2016, the Archdiocese of Samoa - Apia consecrated our country SAMOA to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to coincide with the Universal Church theme of Dedicating 2017 to ‘’Mary the Mother of God’’ for her intercession and guidance. It will be renewed accordingly during the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Fatima now underway. Our county truly had experienced some heavenly interventions and protections in the past few years and we enjoy living in peace without natural disasters for a longer period - thanks GOD.
So the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is the same thing and for the same purpose likewise Samoa. Asking for a heavenly intervention for Russia’s change of heart through Mary’s intercession with our own prayers as well. It is a devotion to refer Russia through the prayers of the faithful to the ‘’interior life’’ of the Blessed Virgin Mary, her joys and sorrows, her virtues and hidden perfections, and, above all, her virginal love for God the Father, her maternal love for her son Jesus, and her compassionate love for her sinful and miserable children here on earth.
The Russians did not even know who Mary and Jesus were at the time of the consecration because there were atheists but the power of the Holy Spirit has helped melt down the hardened hearts. Nothing is impossible with GOD. As we are talking about Mary’s heart then let us take a little check to what the Scriptures say about Mary’s Heart. Sacred Scripture does mention the heart of Mary twice, and it implies it in another place.
Let’s look at Luke 2:19 it says: “But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.” Luke 2:51: “And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them, and his mother kept all these things in her heart.” Luke 2:35: “[And a sword shall pierce your own soul also] that the thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.”
Here the Bible teaches us that to be like Mary is to ponder and to keep Jesus in our hearts, and that is a great thing. The alternative, of course, is to ponder worldly things in our hearts.
We also learn that Mary suffered greatly during Jesus’ passion [that is the sword piercing her soul] so that the thoughts of our own hearts may be revealed. This is why Mary is known as the Queen of Martyrs, because as Jesus suffered in the body during His Passion, Mary suffered very much in her soul and in her sorrowful heart.
Some people are afraid that being close to Mary will lead them away from Christ. But this is totally false. Mary is so meek and humble that she will always lead us to Christ. At her many apparitions her message is to bring us to her Son Jesus. Her mission was, and is, to bring Christ into the world: the first time He came, physically; and in His second coming, spiritually. Being close to Mary is the best way to be one with Christ, in the most efficient and loving manner possible.
An important thing to remember here is that if we have a strong devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she, in turn, will have a strong devotion to us! It’s like a two way street. What this means is that she will help guide us away from temptation, sin, the carnal allurements of the world, and the snares of the devil, so as to lead us to her Son Jesus. Those evil things that Satan had planned for us had we not become attached to Mary will now not happen to us. Those evil people the devil had planned for us to meet will now remain unmet. Instead, good and holy people will come our way.
She will do all of this better and faster than any other method there is out there to find Christ. After all, if your spouse, if your priest, if your friend, or if some stranger at your door can lead you to Christ even though they are all sinful, how much faster can the sin-free Blessed Virgin Mary lead you to Jesus.
If one is lost in the world, what better method is there to find your way than to obtain a guide who already knows the way? That guide would be Mary, who knows Jesus, the Way, and the Truth and the Life, better than anyone who ever lived.
Her loving Immaculate Heart which loves Christ with an infinite love now starts to take over our sinful hearts with that same love.
It’s also important to remember that Mary was, and is, filled with the Holy Spirit, so when Mary is close to you, her spouse, the Holy Spirit, is also close to you. The Holy Spirit loves a soul who is devoted to His spouse. And according to Acts 1:8, you have power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. The Holy Spirit 7 great gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, piety], fortitude, and fear of offending the Lord are now yours for the asking.
The Bible says in Mark 10:15 that “whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Now, what exactly do little children all have in common? A great love for their mothers! And we know from John 19:27 that Jesus gave us His mother from the cross, because like John, we are Disciples of Christ, and we take Mary into our home. And what do mothers do for their children?
They clean them up and feed them and teach them right from wrong. Mary inspires us to go to confession more frequently which cleans us up, inspires us to go to daily Communion which feeds us, and teaches us her virtues while helping us not to sin which teaches us right from wrong.
People think their sins are so severe that they may not get the forgiveness of God. That is absolutely wrong and it’s a sin against the Holy Spirit. Sins against the Holy Spirit are unforgivable the Scripture says.
So our Mother Mary asks us attend to confession as much as the Sacrament is available. Do not dodge it with many un-Catholics excuses. Confession is a Sacrament of the Church. Jesus Christ instituted it when he breathed and commanded the apostles; what to do with the Holy Spirit.
He said to them ‘’Peace be with you, as the Father has sent me so I send you, And when he had said this he breathed on them and said to them; receive the Holy Spirit; whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained’
So the Church; His Mystical Body is being blessed with this Sacrament and for us Catholics, how does an ordained priest who is a representative of the High Priest Jesus Christ; ‘’execute the forgiveness of sins with the Holy Spirit’’ known as ‘absolution’ as Jesus instructed them to continue, if you and I members of his Body do not go to Confession. It’s for your soul not mine and there will be no substitutes before God on Judgment day.
You will stand there on your own empty handed. With the power of that Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as we earlier mentioned in this edition and the daily praying of the Rosary by the faithful; communism in Russia came to an end in time of GOD’s choosing and the Berlin Wall was torn down on November 9th 1989.
At that time, the three great leaders — President Reagan, Margret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II — worked together to defeat communism; with the collective prayers of the Catholic Church. On Dec. 8, 1991, the day that marks the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Soviet First Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev announced the dissolution of the Soviet Union; on Dec. 25 [Christmas]. Mikhail Gorbachev resigned; on Jan. 1, 1992 [the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God], the evil empire was no more.
Gorbachev later told Pope John Paul II that, as a child, he had secretly been baptized by his grandmother in the Catholic Church. In their home, they had an icon of the Blessed Mother hidden behind the mandatory picture of Josef Stalin. Was Gorbachev’s role in this scenario a mere coincidence or grace at work? God miraculously works everywhere.
Prayerful Life, Repentance and God’s Mercy.
Frankly speaking and for the sake of proving what this writer is trying to get across to our readers, I have a Daily Prayer Timetable [7 days a week] to follow at home. I intend to spend my remaining days on earth in prayers for my children and grandchildren and families etc. Hence a program was put in place to guide me. My schedule starts from the early dawn’s Angelus prayer, then Mass in the morning, Divine Office [Official Prayer of the Church after or before Mass], the Rosary. Midday kicks off with another Angelus prayer, other devotional prayers in between and Devine Mercy Chaplet at 3.00 pm including in the prayers is ‘Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’’ I mention my schedule in good will to share the ‘’joy of prayer’’ in my own experience. Because that was what the faithful did to change Soviet’s leaders to abandon communism. Pray with faith, meditate and feel the eternal peace of the soul throughout the day when you consecrate yourself devoutly to both hearts of Jesus and Mary. It’s turning on a new leaf of life every single day with God’s Mercy.
And talking about the ‘’Mercy of God’’ we should think of ‘’Repentance’’ as well, because too many of us today think “Mercy” has come to mean, “God is fine with what I am doing praying this, praying that, attending Mass everyday and adoring Christ at the Blessed Sacrament on and on the list goes on…..” But true Mercy does not overlook sin, it presupposes it, it sees it as a serious problem and offers a way out of sin. God’s Mercy is His way of extending a hand to draw us out of the swamp of sin. And this is why repentance is the key that unlocks Mercy. For, it is by repentance that reaches for and grasps God’s merciful and outstretched hand. One of the chief errors today is the proclamation of mercy without reference to repentance.
Sadly, this is common, even in the Church. It is far too common to hear talks on mercy with no reference to repentance. The opening words of Jesus’ ministry were “Repent and believe the Gospel!” The order is important. Repent first, then belief follows. For how can we experience the good news of God’s Mercy if we do not first repent, come to a new mind and know our need for that Mercy? If you don’t know the bad news, the good news is no news. Repentance brings us to our senses, makes us accept our need for change, seeks God and unlocks his Mercy. This error of mercy without reference to repentance is widespread in the Church today and leads to the sin of presumption, a sin against hope and is offending the Holy Spirit of GOD so much.
OUR LADY OF FATIMA, PRAY FOR US SINNERS. AMEN
