STANDING TOGETHER: Descedants of the late Leota Dr. Tautaso Faatiga and Temukisa Leota celebrating their family legacy and unity.

The descendants of the late Leota Dr. Tautasi Faatiga and Temukisa Leota (nee Omeri) gathered in Samoa last week.

The occasion was their first family reunion in Samoa, which ended on Sunday.

The late Leota and his wife, Temukisa Leota, of Vaiee, Lalomanu, Ulutogia and Leulumoega, had seven children, four boys and three girls.

They are Tupuola Fiavivini, Aigasatupa’itea Vitilevu, Leota Aloalomoepeau, Arouma Mata’utia, Togamau Pesa, Leilua Tauili’ili Tologa and Galumalemana Sialofi Doreen.

Tupuola Vini said five generations of the family attended the reunion, with family members flying to Samoa from U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand.

“This special occasion meant re-connecting with all family members and as well our beloved mother Temukisa. She recently turned 92-years-old and it has been a real eye opener for the younger generation.”

The family took a journey down memory lane during the reunion.

“In particular the struggles that our parents went through to raise a family of four boys and three girls,” said Tupuola.

For some family members, this was their first time in the country of their ancestral roots.

“Our first gathering began at the family homestead in Motootua, Sunday, 2nd April then Faofao Beach Fales, Saleapaga from Monday 3rd to Friday 6th April.”

“Then our family reconvened again back in the homestead Saturday, 7th which closed up with a family toana’i last Sunday.”

“The time together included working together in four teams, day trip visiting important family/village sites, quiz night, games/activities, fiafia night, family histories, and cultural learning.”

“Sadly, all good things must come to an end. The one thing that will always be there, was the teachings to us by our parents of their firm belief in God.”

“The reunion theme of standing together meant Leota and Temukisa’s legacy for us to help each other through good and bad times, will continue to central across our families.”
