Samoa’s Parliamentary system and the P.M.

Dear Editor,

Re: Samoa election process, the P.M. and his “facelift” developments

Keith, please look up how parliamentary systems work and then continue to refer to that to avoid any future doubt.

If there is nobody else to stand against him in his electorate, he is automatically voted in unopposed.

The United Kingdom has a Prime Minister who has not been elected in a general election. New Zealand is about to have a new Prime Minister without voting for him.

In a parliamentary system, the people vote for their local MP who is aligned with a particular party. The reason is because they want that party to form the government and for that government to choose the Prime Minister.

Samoa already knew who the PM was going to be if they chose the HRPP to form the government. If they did not want Stui to be the PM, they would’ve voted for the Tautua party to put Palu in as PM.
