Moana the Disney movie is really putting a spotlight on the Polynesian Culture. The highly anticipated movie will showcase the true Polynesian culture and way of life.
5yrs of research and study.. One of my deciding factors to be part of #Moana was sitting w/ my good bud John Lasseter (CCO of Disney Animation and PIXAR) and understanding his and Disney's commitment to digging in deep and putting in the time to understand our Polynesian culture, so as filmmakers they can deliver an amazingly authentic film. Proud of my Disney partners. What a job they did! Here's a 3 part series... enjoy! #MoanaMondays
The crew of Directors have visited several islands in the Pacific including Samoa to have a true taste of the Polynesian culture.
The film is deeply rooted in the true island way of life.
In this small instagram video by Dwayne Johnson, it shows the various places they visited in the Pacific, including a small interview with one of Samoa’s very own Film-maker and Anthropologist, Dionne Fonoti.
It also shows parts of our Samoan culture, from coconut climbing, weaving fine mats, traditional tattoo, tourism sites and beautiful people of Samoa.
They have also worked with people of the community to have a real taste of the culture and way of life. Watch this space, there’s more to come!
