Feeling ill about education

Dear Editor

Alarming school dropout numbers

79 percent dropout rate. I feel physically ill.

I’ve said so much about the poor education system in Samoa. It’s worse than I could even imagine.

This is almost a 100 percent dropout rate.

This is not about school not being the right place for all kids, this is about a seriously underfunded system with kids being taught by low skilled, poorly paid teachers and administrators. This is a national tragedy.

If 70 percent of kids are being educated by the church schools then the church schools are garbage just as I said.

It’s time the government took responsibility for the education of Samoa’s future adults with some of the aid money he receives from other countries.
