The Samoa Water Authority are urging members of the public who do not have access to water to contact 22752, 22753, 20176 for assistance.
This is according to Samoa Water Authority, Corporate Manger for Communications, Kolone Tikeri.
The areas encountering water supply problems are the ones serviced by the Alaoa treatment plant. These include Vaivase-uta, To’omatagi, Lelata, Tuaefu, Alafua, Se’ese’e, Alafua, Lotopa, Sinamoga parts of Malifa, Vaivase Tai, Fagalii, Vailele Uta and Vailele tai and Fagalii.
Mr. Tikeri said the problem is due to high turbidity from the rivers and blockage at the intakes due to heavy rainfall.
“Also all borehole supplies are dependent on electricity including Faleapuna to Aleipa and Matatufu,” he said.
“Also all villages supplied from our treatment plant at Tafitoala, as well as the borehole schemes in A’ana and Aiga i le tai.
“We are working to repair damages on the systems and networks as well as with E.P.C. to restore electricity supply for pump stations feeding borehole schemes.
“The S.W.A. urges our customers to collect rainwater as alternative for now while we endeavor to restore our system.
“Also be advised to boil water for consumption."
