A brawl in town during the weekend has left one dead and another hospitalised with stab wounds on his neck.

Falefou Lemana, of Togafu’afu’a and Nu’u, was stabbed to death following a fight between a group of men in Apia.

The second victim is admitted to the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital hospital with stab wounds on his neck.

The deceased is in his late 20s.

The police have appealed to members of the public with information to assist their investigation.

An uncle of the deceased, Peleti Schwalger, was still trying to come to terms with the death of his nephew when the Samoa Observer visited the family.

“We are still in shock that Falefou has passed away as a result of a brawl between men at Tauese,” he said.

“He and another nephew of ours were in a drinking session then they were (on their way to get food) and that’s where the fight broke out and as a result he was stabbed on the abdominal.

“Falefou was trying to help his cousin who was involved in the fight when he was stabbed and died,” Mr. Schwalger said.

The parents of the deceased and the second victim were not at home.

Police Superintendent Soloi Iosefo Tuimaunei, when contacted for comment, said no one has been charged yet.

“We have leads that we are now investigating.  All I can confirm is that the unfortunate incident took the life of a young man.

“I can also confirm alcohol was a factor and investigation is underway and unfortunately that is all I am at liberty to say.

“Other than that we are asking members of the public, who have any information pertaining to the incident to please come forward,” he said.
