Re: “Businessman blasts Health Ministry” dated 25 April 2016 in the Samoa Observer.

We rely on responsible media and citizens to help us in our efforts for the Health Security of our country. We feel that Tuala’s views raised in your newspaper seems to be a publicity campaign which may have done more harm than he expected.

This is not the first time he has publicly blamed the Ministry of Health and his criticisms are welcomed as long as they are constructive.

His views and application of the law has totally missed the point and it seems that he would rather put the health of our people at risk over his business interests. I have no objection to Tuala quoting the Tourism laws however it has no relevance when it comes to the health of our people and country.

The Ministry of Health’s mandate is to ensure that the health of our people are protected and secured at all times. The health of our country and people is paramount.

The Ministry is willing to enlighten Tuala on any health issues and also the laws that regulate the health sector and our national and international obligations to report all suspected disease outbreaks. We have no wish to cause panic for the general public, but to inform and advise them accordingly as we await confirmation from the Lab.

We have a responsibility to the public as we have been tasked with their health security and we strive to do everything to achieve that.

Ma le fa’aaloalo tele,
