Drop the hop, tackle Lima style

Watching the Samoa sevens team lose their game to Argentina was a lesson in frustration - for viewers and no doubt, coaches.

After being reminded by the P.M. pre departure to take their brains with them onto the field, several players obviously had forgotten the message.

There was the ridiculously showy, hop-on-the-spot antics by not just one, but two players which allows an opposing player time to get up and smash you.

Which they did.

That didn’t work although it does for Fijians who have got the blistering pace to back it up.

Then as an Argentinian player motored down the sideline in the dying moments to take the game off us, instead of a Brian Lima-style tackle cutting out his legs from under, our player flails out at the upper body and is shrugged off like an annoying mosquito.

Oh and by the way, SBW’s advice to friend and new sevens recruit, Quade Cooper is also worth noting. “Buy a new set of lungs.”

Sevens is about fitness.
