The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Samoa has donated 200 sets of desks and chairs to Avao Primary School in Savai’i.
The official handover ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of China, Wang Xuefeng and the Deputy Speaker, Nafoitoa Talaimanu Keti.
Village chiefs, villagers, teachers and all the pupils of the school were present.
Ambassador Wang said he got to know from the Deputy Speaker Nafoitoa that Avao Primary School is in need of desks and chairs for pupils and had asked Chinese Embassy for help.
The Chinese Embassy was happy to offer help and arranged for the purchase of 200 sets of brand new desks and chairs.
“Today I am very happy to see that all the desks and chairs are readily set for use for students. I hope students can learn better with better conditions in the new environment,” the Ambassador said.
The Ambassador encouraged students to study hard to gain more knowledge so they can become useful citizens and use their talents to contribute to the development of the community and the society.
Deputy Speaker Nafoitoa thanked Ambassador Wang for the generous donation from China.
He said the donation means a lot to the students, teachers and villagers of the Avao because it helps them realise the dream of providing better conditions for students to study at school.
He also thanked Chinese Embassy for all the help to other schools in Samoa.
