The Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has advised that the following changes in retail petroleum prices will apply from yesterday, 1st February 2016.
The Prime Minister announced decreases in retail prices for petrol by 13.4sene from $2.31 to $2.18 per litre, for diesel by 27.2sene from $2.27 to $2.00 per litre and for kerosene by 26.0sene from $1.98 to $1.72 per litre.
The decrease in prices reflects the flow-on effect of lower crude oil prices which in turn impact product prices.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, O.P.E.C. led by Saudi Arabia, has to date resisted calls from outside the group to reduce export quotas, signaling a change in policy from supporting prices to protecting market share against U.S. and Canadian shale oil producers.
