The Ministry of Health is investigating the death of a teenager who died minutes after he received an injection for rheumatic fever at the national hospital at Moto’otua.
During an interview, Director General of Health and Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Health, Leausa Dr. Take Naseri confirmed the clinical audit is looking into the matter.
According to Leausa, a Grievance Body in the health department is always available for people to lodge their complaints.
Although he could not confirm whether the family of the boy had lodged a complaint, he assured the Observer that the matter concerning the boy’s death is being investigated by the Clinical Audit.
On social media, the grieving mother of the deceased, Fa’amelea Fetutaua Nona warned members of the public about getting injections at the hospital.
In a post on her Facebook page, Mrs. Nona cautioned, “to all the rheumatic fever patients, you have to be alert and be careful before you have your injection.”
The mother added after her son got his injection he was halfway out of the door before he collapsed.
“You might be the next victim if you aren’t careful care,” warned the mother.
When contacted for a comment, the family declined to comment as they are still grieving.
