Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa has agreed to conduct regular press conferences at the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day last Friday.

She said she supported a free press.

A senior journalist questioned her if she would revert to weekly press conferences so the media be used to disseminate important government-related information and questions could be put to her.

Galumalemana Tipi Autagavaia while giving his thanksgiving address on behalf of Journalist Association of Samoa (JAWS) asked the question.

"It's been a while since we have held any press conferences, and we request if we could do it more often," he asked.

The Prime Minister has been away from the limelight since September and there were many questions about the government that remain unanswered as well.

Fiame said the answer was easy agreeing to the request.

As the nation builds up to hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October, there have been no briefs with the media regarding updates and how far ready the nation is.
