Hundreds of the followers of the opposition party in New Zealand have shown support for the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) following a dinner event that helped them rake in more than NZ$300,000.

With two separate events, the concluding and main event had donations of more than $300,000 overall.

The community in New Zealand in support of the party gathered at the two events. Even HRPP leader, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi pitched in with a donation of NZD$11,535.

Meanwhile, the events in New Zealand started with a friendship dinner on Friday night before the main event on Saturda which saw hundreds of supporters in blue attending and supporting the opposition.

It is not clear yet how much proceedings were collected from various events across New Zealand. This comes following a fundraiser event which was held in American Samoa before Tuilaepa and his MPs travelled to New Zealand for the second phase of their fundraiser event.

Luamanuvao Dame Winnie Laban also attended the event on Friday night.

"It is politicians' responsibilities to provide leadership and put in place policies and laws that might make life better for all citizens," she said in her speech at the dinner.

"Tuilaepa's long service to Samoa has been well documented. Year on year, as Prime Minister for 22 years, Tuilaepa got things done. He led the nation's response to natural disasters, cyclones and tsunamis."

Luamanuvao stressed in her speech and made a bold reminder to Tuilaepa that his political career is not over and it is not time to plan for the future.

"Your faith in the democratic process, your courage, your patience and persistence has been rewarded," she added.

Luamanuvao is a former New Zealand politician. She served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mana electorate, representing the Labour Party, and was the Labour Party's spokesperson for Pacific Island Affairs and interfaith dialogue. Laban is the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Pasifika) at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and is a respected leader in the local Pasifika community.

An ava ceremony was held at the Malaeola Hall in Mangere Auckland as well on Saturday.
