Dozens of people were killed in mass shootings at two mosques in New Zealand that were full of worshippers attending Friday prayers. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the attacks in Christchurch were "an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence." In addition to the dead, she said more than 20 people were seriously wounded.

In other images from the Asia-Pacific region this week, Malaysian prosecutors unexpectedly dropped a murder charge against Indonesian Siti Aisyah in the killing of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's half brother. Aisyah and a Vietnamese co-defendant, Doan Thi Huong, were accused of smearing VX nerve agent on Kim Jong Nam's face at a Kuala Lumpur airport terminal. They have said they thought they were taking part in a prank for a TV show. Huong was not freed and her murder case is to proceed.

China held the annual session of its legislature in Beijing. The National People's Congress has a rubber-stamp function but its agenda included speeches by policy makers like Premier Li Keqiang.
