No place like home

Think a minute…It is true: “There’s no place like home.” In fact, who we are, what we think about ourselves, others, and life, mostly comes from our family with whom we grew up as children and teenagers. That is why they say, “The apple does not fall far from the tree.”

From the time we are born, we naturally follow our family’s example and way of thinking, loving and living. Home is where we learn about life, love, laughter and labor. “Happiness is home-made.” It does not matter if you are rich or poor, because a small house can hold as much happiness as a big mansion.

Tragically, many homes are not happy, loving, and secure. As one guy with a bad perspective and attitude said:  “The first half of my life was ruined by my parents, and the second half by my children.”  A best-selling book entitled, It Takes A Village, says that raising children is the job of the community.

But the reason some people expect the community to raise their children is because they are failing to do their job as parents. Just because a person physically reproduces themselves does not make them a father or mother.

That is why there are countless families where essentially children are raising children since the parents have still not truly grown up. Millions of children are permanently damaged by divorce, adultery, greedy ambition, domestic violence and abuse, alcoholism, teenage pregnancies, and many other wrong, destructive ways of living.

It is an inescapable fact of biology, psychology, sociology and human history: there is no substitute for the family. A child’s need for security, love and acceptance from both parents will never change. Our Maker designed each of us to grow up in a family with both a father and a mother who love each other and love us without conditions.

Parents who teach us what is right and wrong through their example. This is the way our character, relationships, attitudes, values and daily way of living are formed, so can we become the happy, honorable adults we were created to be.

But if you are one of the many who did not grow up in a happy, loving family, Jesus wants to make you a member of His true family, where He will always love, forgive and accept you. So why not sincerely ask Him to forgive you for your wrong living, and to take full charge of your heart and life from this day forward? Then, He can start healing your past wounds and scars from your childhood, and help you forgive those who hurt and wronged you.

Jesus is the only One Who can show you the way He designed you to live, and help you with His inner strength to start actually living it each and every day.  So today, won’t you finally come home where you belong? Jesus has been ready and waiting for you all of your life. Just think a minute…
