Samoa's top lifters primed for weekend league

Four of Samoa's top weightlifters will compete in the Oceania Weightlifting Federation Cup League on Saturday and Sunday. 

This was confirmed by the President for S.W.A. Samoa Weightlifting, Tuaopepe Asiata Wallwork.

"On Saturday at 4pm Leotina Petelo and Iuniarra Sipaia will compete in the OWF Online Cup League, while Don Opeloge and Sanele Mao will compete on Sunday at the same time," he said.

Only two best lifters for males and females from each country can compete. 

"The OWF Online Cup, each player will compete for a prize money. We have selected our top two from both men and women for this tournament. And they will compete tomorrow. This is the first ever online cup for weightlifting due to restrictions on travelling because of COVID-19," he added.

Apart from national pride, a prize money of USS$4,000for first place and US$3,000 for second place is up for grabs.

They won't be competing as a team but as individuals.

Sipaia's performance in the OWF online league was phenomenal as she had the highest aggregate score for the SWA Samoa Weightlifting women division.

Mao also has the highest aggregate score for the men's division, despite the lockdown of their headquarters the four players are still training in preparations for the Online Cup this weekend.

The SWA Samoa Weightlifting are also preparing for the seventh round of the OWF Online League 2020 in which they are currently leading by 6,075.29kg.
