While Lupesoliai Joseph Parker wants to take on the likes of top British boxers Anthony Joshua, Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte, he might end up fighting an opponent far closer to home in his next bout.

Lupesoliai’s manager, Segiali'i David Higgins told Stuff reporter Duncan Johnstone that a heavyweight clash between his client and Tongan-New Zealander Junior Fa in Auckland is “being given serious consideration.”

"Junior Fa is unbeaten and Joseph Parker is in his prime, to match them up now would be sensible," Higgins said.

"It's being discussed as a serious, realistic option. If it didn't happen now, then it might never happen. Fa might take a loss, Joseph might retire. So the reasons it's being discussed now is because it kind of makes sense to do it now.

"That being said, the commercials and financials have to work and the stars have to align. The number that Fa wants has to be viable. If he prices himself out it won't happen.”

Lupesoliai and Fa haven’t met before as professionals, but split four amateur fights between them 2-2.

Johnstone also spoke with Fa's manager Mark Keddell, who thought a 33 per cent share would be fair for his boxer.

"Junior is happy to fight Joseph if the terms are right, it's a business," he said.

"It's up to us to show to the world what Junior can do.”

As the more high-profile boxer, Lupesoliai will likely have other potential fighters keen for a bout towards the middle of the year.

"And it's boxing, Matchroom [Lupesoliai’s promoter] could come to us tomorrow and say Dereck Chisora, Oleksandr Usyk, Alexander Povetkin or Dillian Whyte is injured, do you want to step into Manchester Arena or the O2 Arena?” David Higgins said.

"Anything can happen. But this is a viable option.

"Joseph will fight anyone if it makes sense. Fa's camp have been calling out Joseph for a while now. That hasn't fallen on deaf ears, I'm sure Joseph would love to put him back in his place.”
