New Caledonia's shooters dominated the two-day pistol shooting competition at the Tafaigata shooting range.

Three out of four gold medal awarded went to New Caledonian shooters.

On Monday, Tahitian shooter, Freddy Yen Kway got the gold medal for the 25m sport pistol with a total score of 550 in the Individual's event while New Caledonia's Cedric Limousin got a silver medal with a score of 539.

In the team's event, Limousin and Johan Perchard of New Caledonia were awarded the gold medals with scores of 539 for Limousin and 508 Perchard.

On Tuesday, New Caledonia got gold in both the teams and individuals' events  in the 25m pistol competition with the same shooters competing for standard pistol mixed competition.

Norfolk Island shooters Kevin Coulter and Douglas Creek got bronze for all competitions on both Monday and Tuesday.

The 25m pistol shooting competition comprised five participating countries: New Caledonia, Tahiti, Norfolk Island, Fiji and Samoa.

Samoan pistol shooters, Toddy Iosefa and Caroline Pereira could not claw their way into medal contention in both events as well as Fijian shooter Shayal Prasad.

Limousin said their hard work and sweat has finally paid off and it was an honour to represent New Caledonia in the motherland. 

"We're very pleased with the results and I don't know what to say, I'm just so speechless. Thanks to our country back at home for the proud support and thank you Samoa for the welcoming host," he said.

All teams are now looking forward to the shotgun competition that will start from Wednesday to Friday with the the same five participating countries but now including Papua New Guinea.
