S.R.U. focus on women in rugby

The Samoa Rugby Union continued its development programme in rural areas of Upolu last week.

Tafitoala Primary School used the opportunity to learn the sport through the GiR/PiU development programme last Saturday.

“One of the major goals of this programme is to develop and promote female rugby in the country.

If they learn the basics of rugby from an early age and continue on in the future, then there is a great chance of seeing the sport grow among this group,” said Avi’i Fa’alupega the Women Development Officer at S.R.U.

Some of the upcoming programmes set for the promotion of female rugby in the country include; SRU Mothers and Daughters’ Day Out which will be held on the 11th of May at SRU sports ground, and the Inaugural U18 Girls Rugby Sevens Competition that will be held in Savaii on the 26th of May at Prince Edward Park, Iva.
