The ‘Fight for Marist’ boxing event was a hit on Wednesday night where people were given a chance to witness some great bouts.

After a few young bouts from weight groups ranging between 38kgs to 91+kgs and some very entertaining corporate fights; the main event finally kicked off at around 10:30pm.

Samoa’s very own Petelo Matagi took on Tonga’s best Kanongataa Atonio.

Despite Kanongataa having a longer reach he was no match for Petelo’s fast combinations of hits.

The 4 round fight ended with the referee stopping the contest (RSC) in the thrid round because Kanongataa was unfit to continue the match and was outclassed.

The pair did not stop and rest during their bout and never retreated with hits being thrown nonstop.

During the first two rounds Petelo tanked many punches thrown by Kanongataa and threw a few hard hits, but during the third round Samoa’s champion for the night dished out lethal head and body shots.

After two minutes into the third round Kanongataa leaned onto the ropes signaling to the referee to stop the fight and that he cannot take anymore. The main event winner Petelo said that the fight was tough but he is happy to leave with a win.
