Eighteen-year-old boxer, Malcolm Preston Matches, is going to represent Samoa in the Youth Olympic and the World Championship.

This was confirmed by Head Coach Tialii Lautapaa Wong King.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer yesterday, Tialii said Malcolm’s win came after a three-day Youth Oceania Qualified Olympic Competition that started last week Wednesday until Friday.

“The World Boxing Championship will be held in Argentina in August while the Youth Olympic is in October this year in Russia,” he said.

“So we had a competition last week and whoever wins Gold medal, he will be the one to represent Samoa in the two events.”

“It was an amazing three-day event with the young one showing their talents through boxing.”

“There are a lot of talented young people who want to pursue their dreams through boxing.”

“Malcolm on the other hand was outstanding, he was able to make it through and at the end he received a Gold medal and is now qualified to represent our country in the upcoming events.”

Silver medals went to five young boxers they are Ioane Ioane, Marion Faustino Ah Tong, Jensen Poutoa, Tutoatai Tuivasa and Tufatu Tuna.

Bronze medals went to Senoa Hall and Alai Faauila.

Tialii acknowledged the support of their sponsors; Pinatis Restaurant, G M Bakery, Digicel, Bluesky, B.S.L., Chan Mow and Malcoms Family.
