Samoa names trial squad for Brisbane Global Tens

The Samoa Rugby Union has named the Samoa 10’s Trials Squad in preparation for the Global Tens.

The S.R.U hosted three rounds of the National Ten’s Series earlier in the month to give players the opportunity to get accustomed to playing in a 10’s capacity.

Development Coordinator, Shalom Senara told the Samoa Observer the tournaments were extremely helpful. “By the third tournament, the average number of games that each player has played is around 17 games; so that’s enough to prep, and then of course they’ve got the trials,” he said.

The trial list is stacked with some of the best players Samoa has to offer.

Fresh from the Northern Hemisphere Tour are Manu Samoa stars, Talaga Alofipo, Oneone Faafou and Patrick Fa’apale.

Manu Samoa’s Alatasi Tupou and one of Samoa’s favorite sevens players, Faalemiga Selesele will take part.

And finally many familiar names from Samoa A have put their hands up as well.

“Selection wise, it is 100% local players; we also have to be aware that all those boys who trialled for the Sevens can also make the tens as well.  So if they’re not picked in the 13 players that will be going on the circuit, they can play for the tens.

The way it works is that the players that are on the sevens team can still play in Brisbane the week after Sydney Sevens.”  This is will also serve as great opportunity for our local players to showcase their talent on the  international stage.

Trials will commence this Monday, December 5th at Apia Park. Players listed on page 36 are required to bring a birth certificate  or passport for registration and training gear.
