The Samoa National Council of Churches has a new Chairman in Retired Reverend Aisoli Iuli who has taken over from Deacon Leaupepe Kasiano Leaupepe.

Retired Reverend Aisoli is not new to taking on senior positions in the church, as he is also a former President the Methodist Church in Samoa and served as the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Christian Churches of Samoa.

He takes over the role from Deacon Leaupepe Kasiano Leaupepe, who had been Chairman for over a decade since the late Reverend Elder Oka Fauolo stepped down due to poor health.

In an exclusive interview with the Samoa Observer, retired Reverend Iuli said he is "humbled" by his new role and acknowledges that just like any new appointment it comes with a lot of responsibilities.

Expressing optimism about the future, he said he is grateful to be given the opportunity to lead the organisation.

"But I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve in this new role and have been given the trust to lead this very important organisation," he said.

"It's very humbling for me and I thank God for using us to serve our people through these positions and roles."

He also commended the leadership of the executive members of the council as well as the former leader Deacon Leaupepe.

The new appointee also confirmed the new position holders who were elected for the Samoa N.C.C.

They include Reverend Elder Asotasi Gu Time, Chairman of the Elders Committee of Congregational Christian Church Samoa (C.C.C.S.) who is now the new Vice Chairman of N.C.C. and Chairman of the Board of the Malua Theological College (M.T.C.) of the C.C.C.S. church.

Elder Sapele Falogo who is the Area Seventy for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been re-elected to serve as the Treasurer for the Council and Reverend Ma'auga Motu who is a senior church minister for the C.C.C.S. church has also been re-appointed as the Secretary.

Established in 1961 the National Council of Churches was set up to develop sincere fraternal fellowship and cooperation among member churches and to work together towards true Christian unity.

The Council is a member of the Pacific Council of Churches within the World Council of Churches.
