Digicel Samoa Limited has seen an up-surge in overseas remittances and mobile phone credit top-ups by family and friends abroad for local customers during the lockdown.

This was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of Digicel Samoa Limited, Seiuli Deepak Khanna in response to questions from the Samoa Observer.

"We are fully geared up to serve our customers while our teams follow the protocols of safety and COVID-19 prevention as mandated by Government of Samoa and health authorities," he said.

"We are seeing an Up-surge in overseas remittances and Top up from family and friends abroad.

"Our social media campaigns are currently educating our customers and community members to stay healthy and follow rules and regulations set up by the Government of Samoa."

According to the C.E.O. of Digicel Samoa, their network works to provide its customers with data and voice services with the public taking full advantage of the lockdown, by spending time with family and sharing moments through social media and video calling.

Digicel customers also enjoy streaming of video content through platforms such as Netflix, Go Loud, YouTube and the company's PlayGO applications while social media consumption is high on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and BIP.

Seiuli said they support the decision of the Samoa Government and the Cabinet through the various interventions such as the lockdown to curb any potential spread of the COVID-19.

"We urge you to take the utmost precautions and abide by the regulations and restrictions that are currently imposed," he said in an appeal to the public.

"For the service of our customers, we are working to make our top up available at all stores and resellers that are allowed to operate during this period."

The C.E.O. also said their teams are working hard to ensure Digicel's customers get the service they want.

"We were also open for MyCash transactions at our SNPF Plaza & Savaii Retail stores on 25th and will be on the 27th of January 2022 between 8am to 2pm.

"We urge you and your families to stay safe and curb the spread of the virus."
