Understanding climate science has been made easier with the “Developing Climate Change Information Material” manual.

The manual was launched by the Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (S.P.R.E.P.), Leota Kosi Latu, at the Taumeasina Island Resort on Monday.

This is part of the ongoing Pacific Climate Change Science and Services workshop that is being held in Samoa.

“Developing Climate Change Information Material aims to raise awareness and facilitate sectoral decision making using science-based climate change science information and Services,” Leota said.

The manual is a product of the partnership between S.P.R.E.P. and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (C.S.I.R.O.).

“I acknowledge the Government of Australia through D.F.A.T. for funding these products as part the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Science Adaptation Project (P.A.C.C.S.A.P.) implemented by C.S.I.R.O. in partnership with S.P.R.E.P.”

Leota says this is a testament of what real partnership is all about.

“This is an example of something practical and science needs to be transformed to something practical so that people can actually use it as a guiding material.”

He adds the manual will make work easy for the various organisations pertaining to climate change.

“I trust these materials will be useful resources for sectors and we encourage you to take copies to your home countries and share with your colleagues. E-copies will also be available on S.P.R.E.P. and P.A.C.C.S.A.P. website.”

C.S.I.R.O. Oceans and Atmosphere Program Manager Climate Science Centre, Dr. Geoff Gooley, was one of those who spearheaded the production of the manual.

According to Dr. Geoff, it took them 12 months to put together the extensive information.

“We have been listening to scientist and we have been working with our partner’s right through the regions the past few years and this is the latest product.”
