Warm weather and clean Samoa impresses couple

Ross and Hellen McLeod from Tauranga, New Zealand can finally tick the box.

As a couple, they have always wanted to visit Samoa and last Saturday, they touched down at Faleolo International Airport for a week in Samoa.

Ross, 68, is not a stranger to Samoa.

“I used to work for the airlines so I used to come and go, way back in the 70’s,” he said.

“Back home, we wanted to come away to get out of our cold winter because we love the warm water at the beach. And so here we are in Samoa.”

Ross said he has noted many changes.

“It’s grown a bit, I mean I don’t know how to describe it,” he said.

“Everything seems nice, neat and tidy around here, you know around the houses and there are some new big buildings we’ve seen.

“It’s really difficult to specifically say anything because we’re really enjoying our holiday.”

Mr. and Mrs. McLeod are staying at Taumeasina Island Resort and so far they are enjoying every bit of it, especially when it comes to the food.

“We love the lobster that we had last night at Taumeasina. When they served us their lobster, it tasted good -- and that Vailima Pure is not that bad either.”

They have also toured the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum at Vailima.

“I think Samoa is pretty reasonably priced too, compared to some places like Fiji, it’s very expensive.

“I suppose it is expensive for other people, but if we compare it to other countrie, Samoa’s cost of living is not that expensive.

“Other than that, we are on holiday, it’s a lovely place, lovely people, we love the rain, the weather’s great, we just love everything and we would definitely recommend Samoa to our other friends.”

Hellen, 64, doesn’t disagree with her husband.

“The sea is lovely and it’s so good for swimming,” she said.

“You know, right now we’re just checking it out to see maybe if we want to come back, but everything compared to other places that we’ve been, it’s very, very clean.

“There’s not a lot of rubbish because a lot of the rubbish is put up on those rubbish collection shelves to protect it from the dogs, so it’s good to see people care about the environment.”
