A Seventh-Day Adventist Women’s Committee has paid a visit to the Home of the Elderly at Mapuifagalele and donated food as well as cash.

The visit to the aged care facility is part of the church's annual activities hosted by the Women’s and Girls Committee, specifically to assist give donations and gifts to community facilities such as the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital and the Tanumalala Prison.

 Leader of the Vaimauga and Anoamaa Zone Women’s Committee, Taupaolo Hurrell, said the visit on Thursday morning provides a platform for their members a service in accordance with their church mission to serve people with love and prayer.

“The actual total cost for the donations (goods and products) is nearly $15,000 tala but above all money is not the problem for us, we want to offer our support and help to Mapuifagalele, we have been trying in what we can do so that we can give to them for their meals in a day," she said. 

“Seven churches (women’s committee) who are involved within our zone, this is one of our major tasks is to offer help according to our church missions and its vision, apart from the whole church who are within our zone.

"We came to visit Mapuifagalele every month as for others they went and visited the hospitals, Samoa Victim Support Group sites and others."

The S.D.A. Women’s Committee was formed by church Leaders to offer help in terms of assisting the needs of the people on an annual basis.

“We rotate with each other Women’s Committee those who will be assigned in different places for visitation so there will be another Women’s Committee who will be visiting again Mapuifagalele next month as for us we move to other places."

 Mrs. Hurrell said this is her first work since she became the leader of the Vaimauga and Anoamaa Zone and she is grateful for the support of her Women’s Committee and the church mission over five years.

“Apparently we don’t just to donate foods and money, but it’s for us to come and deliver a spiritual message to the elderly we know that they live away from their family so we hope our donations and the message we deliver encourages them to lift up their faith and make them feel like they are home”

Sister Maria Francis Pale, who spoke on behalf of the Home of the Elderly Age, expressed their appreciation to the Women’s Committee for the donation.

“Seeing them coming is very touching because when we were the first contact that the SDA Vailele and some of them do tell a story of taking care of their elderly its breaks our heart though,” she said.

“In Mapuifagalele, is everybody’s home we welcome anybody on the street, different religions and races are all about God love and mercy.

“We are so grateful because all of this donation (food and money) will help our elderly in their meals, three meals a day and also the variety of goods they bought in are the healthy foods for them, so thank you very much again."

The donated goods included wholesale items such as boxes of milk and chicken as well as a monetary gift of $1,000 tala in cash.
