The Papauta Girls College and Leififi College are the recipients of books donated by Brisbane-based Samoan woman Soti Fealofani and not-for-profit organisation Brown Girl Woke.

The book donation which comprised various titles including text books were presented to the schools on Tuesday afternoon by the representatives of the organisations making the donation. 

The Principal of Papauta Girls College, Malua Taise Latu said in an interview that the college and its students are happy with the donation.

"We are very grateful to the Brown Girl Woke organisation for their kind donation of books which will contribute a lot in the education and empowerment of young girls our nation," she said.

She added that the intention of the book donation is to provide quality education for young girls of Samoa so that one day they will become meaningful citizens and good leaders of the country.

The school, however, is also in need of help in other areas such as computers according to the Principal.

"We have requested for computers so that it will help us in our work especially in the education of our students," she said.

A representative of the B.G.W, Vineta Pisia, said that the Leififi College and Papauta Girls College were in need of reading books and textbooks on various subjects.

She said the books will be helpful for some of the students in terms of their internal assessments or in any related subjects that they might need the books for.

They hope that every student will get the same opportunity when the books are made available or when they are in need of anything that they might find from the textbooks while improving their reading skills.

She expressed their appreciation to the donors of the books as well as Soti Fealofani for the donation that B.G.W founder Maluseu Doris Tulifau and members of her group presented to Leififi and the Papauta Girls College.

Samoa Observer reported in February this year that Ms. Fealofani's donations began in 2018 with various schools, companies, and libraries in Australia assisting with the donation.

The first donation was made in 2018 to her father's village in Ulutogia, Aleipata and soon after libraries and schools in Australia heard about the initiative and contributed to it.
