Cases reported to Police continue to increase

The number of crime related incidents reported to the Police is on the rise.

For example, Police spokesperson, Maotaoalii Kaioneta Kitiona, confirmed that there were at least 312 criminal related matters reported last week.

Of those cases, 107 are the subject of Police investigation while 205 cases have been resolved because the families only needed police assistance during the time of the incidents. 

Maotaalii said this is a typical week inside the Police force now.

One of the serious cases reported last week involved rape.

According to Maotaoalii, the incident occurred on the big island of Savai’i. 

A male of 33-years of age is charged with rape and he is remanded in custody until he appears for mention on the 4 May 2016. 

Maotaoalii said the offence occurred around 4:30pm and the victim filed a complaint to the police office at Tuasivi. 

Another serious offence reported was the possession of narcotics. 

Maotaoalii said the matter was referred to Police on the 9th April 2016 around 4:30am. He said the accused man has been under the police radar for a while.

Police found 17 and half marijuana smokes on the accused. 

The 42 year old male was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics. 

He is scheduled to appear in Court on 2 May 2016.
