The Howler: S.I.F.A. sponsors clinics

18 March 2018

Samoa’s Animal Protection Society (A.P.S.) held desexing clinics this week in villages all around Upolu.

With a generous sponsorship from S.I.F.A, A.P.S. was able to desex approximately 55 dogs and 1 cat on the island with its mobile desexing clincs held in villages around Upolu.

The Dog Management Unit of Samoa has also been a part of the clinics, helping to spread the word and bring the animals to the desexing sites.

With selfless contributions from volunteer veterinarians; Dr. Helen Todd and Dr. Liat Kelin, as well as JICA’s Dr. Rei Kashiyama and Samoa’s very own Dr. Ken Lamata, the team was able to help improve the overall health of Samoa’s dog population. Dr. Todd and Dr. Kelin came to the island on holiday, but have first contributed two weeks of their time to graciously perform operations on a volunteer basis for A.P.S.

The desexing clinics will continue this week at a new set of villages each day this week between the hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Please refer to the schedule below for the scheduled locations. The team can also assist with parasite treatment, vaccinations, deworming and other ailments, so even if your animal has been desexed we urge you to bring it down for a check-up.

Also, if you’re concerned that your pup might be too young to be desexed please bring it down so the vets can check, as they may be able to perform the desexing and/or provide you with other necessary routine care for the animal.

You can also register your animal for the annual fee of $5 WST through the D.M.U. For more info please check out the A.P.S. Facebook page or call the clinic at 22403.
