Long-serving civil servant Solia Tanuvasa has got his eyes fixed on the Falealupo Constituency and is confident he will be its new Member of Parliament after next year's polls.

The 60-year-old, who currently works with the Ministry of Inland Revenue, has already registered as a candidate for the ruling Human Rights Protection Party [H.R.P.P.] during the party's candidate registration.

The incumbent M.P. for Falealupo is veteran Parliamentarian, A'eau Peniamina Le'avai. But he has chosen not to contest the upcoming election.

But his daughter, Leota Tima Leavai, has declared her intention to follow in her father's footsteps and stand for the seat.

Nonetheless Solia says he is unbothered by the competition and remains confident of his chances.

"No one puts up his hand to run in the election without wanting to win," Solia said.

"We all raise our hands with the hope to win and become a Member of Parliament. That's the same for me.

"I am confident that I will win. The incumbent member of Parliament is A'eau Peniamina Le'avai and he is old now and surely he will not contest again.

"So I believe I have a fair chance of winning."

He has a long list of developments that he intends to push and develop if elected at an M.P.

But he is keeping his policy platform close to his chest for now.

"I don't want to tell you about my plans," he said.

"But there are a lot of areas that I intend to develop for the constituency."

Solia said that he has already informed his constituency of his will to contest the  election and has received their blessing.

Asked why he decided to contest under the H.R.P.P. banner, he said: "This is because they have done a lot of developments for this country. They have done a lot of great work for this country.

"I know that it will open opportunities for our constituency in the future."

Solia has been with the Ministry of Inland Revenue for over 40 years.
