A brand new car for Christmas

Tomorrow will be a Christmas to remember for businessman Magele Daniel Ah Kau.

He was named yesterday as the winner of Bluebird’s Win A Car promotion where he droved away with a 2017 Hyundai Creta valued at $75,000.

Magele was very humbled.

“Today is not about me or the car, but it’s about Fa’amausili Andrew Ah Liki and the staff of Bluebird for this great initiative,” he said.

“I want to acknowledge the staff and the management of Bluebird for their great service throughout this year as well as many other years.”

Magele entered the draw when he shopped at Bluebird during a family project.

“Our family project is a small one,” he said. “All of my siblings and I are all busy people and that means nobody has the time to go shopping but I am very grateful for Bluebird’s service."

“All we have to do is pick up the phone and talk to the branch manager of Vaitele, Kitiona Tiatia, about our orders and then they deliver it at that time. It was that easy.”

Asked how he felt when he was told he had won, he said he couldn’t believe it.

“I was at work when I got the call and I thought it was one of my friends who want to shout me on Christmas, but I was told that I had won a Hyundai 2007 Creta from Bluebird,” said Magele. “I couldn’t believe it, but then I spoke to Tiatia again and he confirmed it that I have won."

“I am humbled and grateful to God for this great blessing. I could never thank Fa’amausili and Bluebird for this great initiative.”

So where will you take this car to celebrate?

“For everyone’s information there are cars at home but they belong to the office and work,” said Magele. “So for most of the time when none of the vehicles are available, I just catch a taxi or a bus."

“But I am humbled that finally there is a car that I can call my own. Even more special is the fact I have just started a family so this Christmas I am very grateful for this wonderful gift.”

Auomanū Andrew Ah Liki Jr. told the media the draw is one of their biggest promotions this year. All customers had to do was to spend $50 at the store for an entry.

“This is the biggest draw we’ve done and it wasn’t just one brand or anything it went right across from timber, cement and all the way inside into electrical and plumbing and so on,” Auomanu said.

“We decided to go this far because it’s more like going with the flow as we’ve seen Bluesky and Digicel give away cars before, but we are not a small company, we’re pretty big and we can give back just as much so we’ve decided for this year we will try a car."

“For the winner today (yesterday), I’m not too sure on the total amount he spent but I know his number of entries made it above 4,000 and to make it above that number, you are looking at close to a quarter of a million to be spent on the project."

“It works so that the more entries a person has the more chances they have, so it really works like that. Magele had a lot and he had a bigger chance than if someone were to spend only $50.”

Auomanu also used the opportunity to acknowledge the company’s customers.

“This year has been really tough for Bluebird because there have been a lot of competition and everything and even though we are still building up, we still made good progress this year,” said Auomanū

“So we are very thankful to the people of Samoa and our customers and because of that, we decided that in this year we add a bit more to giving back."

“We have done this before, but not to this scale and we are happy that it benefited not only us in terms of promotion, but also we got to give back in a very big way to the community.”
