A 55 year old male tourist from Japan died on Monday while swimming with his daughter at one of the beaches at Lalomanu.

This was confirmed by Acting Assistant Commissioner Sala’a Moananu Sala’a during his weekly conference with the media yesterday morning.

“The 55-year-old Japanese tourist was here with his wife and daughter for holiday,” said Sala’a.

“It was on Monday that he went swimming with his daughter when he drowned.

“He was rushed to the Moto’otua Hospital but it was too late, he was already gone.”

Sala’a went on to say that reports from the hospital are still on the way.

“We believe that something might have happened to the deceased because we don’t think it could  be from drowning,” he said.

“That is why we are still waiting on reports from the hospital to see if a post mortem should be done.”
