Mother calls for better roads

Waiting on the government to fix our roads is like waiting for rain in a drought.

This is how Asenati Ropeti, 42, describes the condition of their road and the time taken by the government to upgrade it.

“The government has spent thousands of dollars on construction of roads, yet people in rural areas are still so eager to see their roads fixed,” she said.

And how can better roads contribute to the development of Samoa and its people?

Mrs. Ropeti from Savaia will tell you all about it.

“I believe that roads contribute to the development of Samoa especially easing the burden of transportation on bad roads,” she tells the Village Voice team.

“A lot of people have plantations, so most of the time we need to come and check our plantations but the road is the biggest problem.”

She said fixing their road would help solve some of their problems.

Mrs. Ropeti has a two-acre plantation in Savaia.

“If I sell my local produce at the market, in a week I earn $200 tala or twice a week I usually earn $1000.”

“It is enough for our family’s survival.”

“The cost of living is very expensive, however, I am confident that what we sell at the market will enable me and my family to survive,” says Mrs. Ropeti.

She is not looking for another job because she loves managing her family’s plantation.
