Mother creates job portal for Samoans

With the world advancing technologically, a young mother is ensuring that both Samoas are not left behind.

Twenty-eight-year-old, Jennifer Livigisitone Singh from Falelatai and Malololelei has invested her time into creating an online employment portal for job seekers and employers in Samoa and American Samoa.

What makes this online portal different from other similar existing portals, Jennifer said, is that while others just advertise jobs, MyJobsSamoa (M.J.S.) acts as mini Human Resource software, identifying, and short-listing potential applicants for certain advertised vacancies.

“It’s good for people residing in Samoa and American Samoa, and those who come from overseas and are looking for jobs. Sometimes they don’t realise that there are jobs available, that is this portal is created,” Jennifer said.

“Currently, finances to operate this website and to have the resources available all the time is coming out of my husband’s pocket.”

While being a mother of three young girls and managing the website is a challenge of its own, Jennifer says there is also a need to educate job seekers on how to utilise the portal, and providing necessary details for employers.

“Sometimes the quality of applications that come through our website are not up to standard, so that is why we need to get job seekers educated.”

Two months into its inception, M.J.S. has already gained several clienteles 2019 looks good as Jennifer hopes to attract a few partners.

“We are more than just a job placements platform and several partnerships will be unveiled this year to assist job seekers in both Samoas.

“MyJobsSamoa works closely with MyJobsPacific.com and MyJobsFiji.com to achieve its goals, which is to increase the employability of all Samoans living on Island and overseas,” she said.

The idea of setting up M.J.S. originated when fellow Australian-based partners with similar intentions launched MyJobsFiji.com, and Jennifer has seen firsthand the issues faced by job seekers and employers in Samoa and around the Pacific.

“Samoa is her home and it has been very good for her and her family each time she came back. For this reason, she wanted to give something back to her people.”

Jennifer is a former student of Leififi College and intends to use this platform to continue her career, which got halted when she became a mother five years ago.

Job advertisements can be currently put up for free and each platform has its own associated Facebook and LinkedIn pages.

The advertisements can be sent to [email protected] or [email protected] for placements. Alternatively job seekers and employers in Samoa and American Samoa can register themselves by following the link; https://www.myjobssamoa.com/registration/
