A Puipa'a resident has thanked the Electric Power Corporation (E.P.C.) for reinstalling a street light in his suburb, saying it is essential during the recently declared state of emergency (S.O.E.).

Malu Ma’a visited the Samoa Observer early last week to express his concerns over the removal of a street light, during the reconstruction of a main road within the vicinity of his home.

He later confirmed, in a return visit to this newspaper, that the street light has been fixed and reinstalled and he commended the E.P.C.

“Me and my family found it challenging at nights ever since our power pole was removed but now that it’s back, we’re just grateful and all thanks to E.P.C,” he said. “I know it must’ve been over their working hours especially with the state of emergency when they came but they managed to fix our street light for us and we’re happy.”

The father-of-two told the Samoa Observer that his family has had unpleasant experiences after the removal of the street light last year.

“In our village, we have very strict rules that no youth or anyone is allowed to play music too loud, especially at nights or get drunk in the village,” he said early last week.

“But I’ve observed that the youth are becoming aware of the darkness in front of my house ever since the street light pole was taken down, and were taking advantage of it by getting drunk and playing their music out loud, especially at nights in that spot.”

Mr Ma’a added that due to their inability to identify the misbehaving youth, they are unable to bring the matter to the village council for action to be taken.

However, it is now possible to identify the culprits behind the anti-social behaviour, thanks to the reinstallation of the street light.
