A man at the centre of a confrontation in front of a supermarket targeting a surprised couple has been charged with multiple offences.

Police Commissioner Fuiavaili'ili Egon Keil told Samoa Observer in a phone interview that a man has been charged with the offence of being armed with a dangerous weapon, possessing an unregistered firearm and being drunk and disorderly.

"Yes, he was arrested and charged with armed with dangerous weapon and drunkenness disorder and unregistered firearm," he said.

Asked if it was the same man who walked into the Utualii Primary school allegedly armed with a gun, he responded that it is the same suspect.

"I am talking about the same man that went to the school with a firearm, he was arrested the same day of the incident contrary to what was printed in the story.”

The Police Commissioner said they found rifles and a bush knife on the man and he was also drunk on the day of the incident.

"On the day of the incident, we found a .22 rifle and a bush knife and he was intoxicated," he added.

Members of the public, who witnessed the suspect confront a man and his wife with their baby in front of the Frankie Utualii supermarket last Saturday, told Samoa Observer that he shouted at the couple and threatened to shoot them.

An eyewitness, who did not want to be identified for safety reasons, said she feels at ease knowing that the suspect has been arrested and charged by the Police.
