A couple from New Zealand have not allowed the flight disruptions brought about by the coronavirus to ruin their Samoa experience.

Andrew and Shelly Wilson from North Shore are visiting Samoa for the third time and say they love the culture and the hospitality.

The couple are currently staying at Sheraton Samoa Resort at Mulifanua.

They were set to leave Samoa on Tuesday but have extended their stay due to flight cancellations as a result of the Government ramping up efforts to protect the country from the spread of the coronavirus.

Despite the travel interruptions, the cancellations has given them more time to relax with the couple highlighted the kindness of locals when interviewed by the Samoa Observer.

"Everyone here is so nice," Mr. Wilson said.

"We hired a car yesterday and we plan to go around soon. We've been here before so everything is so great. It's my third time here and I was here at the resort before when it first opened. The Samoan culture and food is great and this resort here is a nice place to stay."

Passengers arriving at the Faleolo International Airport are subject to a medical clearance in order to exit the airport, added Mr. Wilson, who explained the long wait when they first arrived.

"The airport is really great, even though we had to wait a long time for everyone to get through the medical check up area. It wasn't too much of a hold up and everything flowed really great. Also taxi drivers here drive a bit fast," he said.

The couple also mentioned that they enjoyed watching the Samoan traditional fire knife dance.

Mr. Wilson said: "The fire knife dance was really good and entertaining."

And his wife supported him, saying that Samoa is the place to be.

"Samoa is generally good all around. The place is really relaxing and it's good value for money, not too far from New Zealand. I prefer Samoa to Fiji."
